Where can companies find personal background check / due diligence information on people?

If a company wanted to do a background check, what is the most information it can uncover?

Are they allowed to obtain private info such as public records, health records, loan records, tax information, schools attended, etc.?

Also, is there an online database they use that I can check myself on before they do?

Thanks!Where can companies find personal background check / due diligence information on people?Hi Michael,

First of all let me tell you that I have been in charge of research and testing for an online review site (http://www.CompleteReviews.net ) where I have been focused on background check related services for over 2 years now. I have tested nearly every background check product on the market and have consequently been able to conduct detailed comparisons between them. I have also worked with several business organizations as they figure out how to use background checks to limit their risk and liability as far as employees are concerned.

So to answer your questions, there are very few limitations on what you are able to access as far as background check related data is concerned with the exception of medical data. Everything else you listed is legally accessible provided you follow the procedures established by the government. You may even be able to access some health related info depending on the job requirements and of course you are free to test for substance abuse as part of the screening process.

As for how you access that data.. there really is no central database that you can access for background check information in general. Each type of data is accessed in a different way and from a different source which is why background check companies exist. You certainly can attempt to at least find out where the potential employee has lived and try to search online county court sites but even then you are likely going to spend money with low assurance that you have accessed all the sites.

I would absolutely recommend that you contract with a backround check company. They will ensure that you follow the law, provide the documents you need to get signed by the candidate so you are protected legally and they will share in the liability for the information they provide. With the best companies, you are able to customize the reports so they include only what you are interested in.

There are many such sites available. Two of the best I have worked with are http://www.CompleteReviews.net/recommend鈥?/a> and http://www.CompleteReviews.net/recommend鈥?/a>

The first company I listed is probably the best overall provider of employement screening background checks that I have tested while the second is the most economical. Both are very dependable so definitely compare them. If you have any follow up questions for me then feel free to email admin@completereviews.net. I hope this helps you with your decision!
