How can I get free appraisals or information on the stuff I collect?

I love collecting antiques, vintage jewelry, old books, rocks, and things of that nature. How can I get information on the items I collect? I would like to know if they are worth something or even information about its origin. But I don't have a clue on where to start. I also don't want to have to pay a large amount of money on appraisal when the items might not be worth much. How can I get free appraisals or information on the stuff I collect?Check with local community organizations like the library, park district, churches, etc. My local library has run an 'antiques roadshow'-type program a few times, where you register ahead of time and an area appraiser comes in and gives free estimates on one or two items per person.

Your local library probably also has copies of a number of value guides for different kinds of antiques and collectibles - ask the reference librarian for help finding what you need. The library may also know if there are any antiques and collectibles clubs or groups in the area that you could join. Another possibility is to open an eBay account if you don't already have one (they're free) so you can do searches for completed items, and you can see what similar pieces have been going for. You can even go on the PBS website and see when and if 'Antiques Roadshow' is going to be filming in your area, so you can try to get tickets.

These approaches should all be considered starting points, not the final word on your items' values, and you should definitely consult with a qualified appraiser about any items that seem promising.

Good luck! How can I get free appraisals or information on the stuff I collect?Im an avid buyer, seller and collector of antiques and vintage items. What i do is ask a trusted and knowledgeable appraiser and auctioneer. To make sure of the details they will give me, i will look it all up in Ebay or websites like that then compare prices.

Researching is also a big plus. There are lots of useful guidelines online and forums where experienced collectors can be found.

Goodluck! xxHow can I get free appraisals or information on the stuff I collect?Free appraisals will take research on your part. You have a great tool in front of you your computer. It is powerful and I would try Ebay for starters. Watch the auctions and see what prices that the items bring. The market will dictate the prices. you will start to notice trends. Type into the search engines and use several search engines as they will give different hits on the item. This will take time.

That is why the appraisals cost. You are paying for someones knowledge and resources. This takes up quite a bit of time. It is not easy doing appraisals.

Hope the best for you.
