How to forward ports without knowing manufacturer information?

I have internet provided through my apartment complex and I know the service provider, but there is no physically visible router to get the make and manufacturer information. Can anyone tell me a way to get this information without the complexes help (they can't tell me at all)How to forward ports without knowing manufacturer information?Port forwarding is done at the router level.
