I've recently started my first job at an insurance company filing papers and such. I've noticed there are a few files on my friend's dad's business, which means his company uses the place I work at as their insurance company. Is that information confidential or am I allowed to tell my friend about this?Is who you are insured by confidential information?Yes it's confidential, but forget all that.....everyone gossips.
But the real reason you don't want to get connected with who insures your friends Dad is this....
I bet the next time you see your friends dad and tell him who you're working for he'll say "Hey that's who I use', followed by "what's the story with my claim/premium/paperwork/other" about which you either won't know or frankly won't want to get involved in a discussion about, because you popped round to tell your friend about this one hot girl who just moved in across the way not discuss the pricing structure of XYZ Insurance Inc.
Trust me after "harrumph" years working in insurance, I can tell you that in general you won't want people to know you work for their insurance company, unless of course you like spending half your time explaining that you have no idea why the payment on their dead cat is taking so long !
Good luckIs who you are insured by confidential information? It's confidential. If the only way you know about something, is because you were working there and saw it or heard it, it's confidential and you shouldn't be gossipping about it.Is who you are insured by confidential information?Confidential. You tell and you will be fired and sued. Did you not pay attention when you were hired.
