Is it illegal for a landlord to share the information on your rental application?

Is it illegal for a landlord to share the personal information (including previous residences, references and potentially the other information that was stated, but not definite) that was filled out on my rental application with a roommate of mine who is a non family member? Is it illegal for a landlord to share the information on your rental application? The only information on the application that is personal is the social security number, the rest of it can be discussed and usually is as part of verifying the information. The landlord is allowed to verify every single thing on the application. Is it illegal for a landlord to share the information on your rental application?
The other renter has the right to know who they are living with.

Their past rental history, just in case they get put with an axe murderer or something like that.

Besides, your roomate would have found that information anyway upon moving out. Its nothing they would not have found out from you when moving in. But they do have a right to know.

Could you imagine moving in, and your roomate was a druggie and you did not know?

At the same time, you should be entitled to that same information about your roomate , from your landlord. Is it illegal for a landlord to share the information on your rental application?Probable isn't illegal since there is no law for that specific case. Why would you have to show ID information to Walmart cashiers.

Why did the landlord do this. A roommate is not someone off the street. It depends on the reason. Is it illegal for a landlord to share the information on your rental application?
