How can I obtain information about an unsolved homicide?

The murder took place over 40 years ago, and the victim remains unidentified. I can't find any information online and little information in old newspapers. To my knowledge, the case will remain open until the victim has a name. If I went to a local police station, could they give me information? How else can I find out about this case? How can I obtain information about an unsolved homicide? You can ASK to speak to someone about the case at the agency that is investigating. However, chances are that they will not provide you with much information as it is an open investigation.

Whether they give you any information at all will depend a good deal on what you want the information for. If you can somehow provide them with a lead to help identify the parties, they might be much more receptive to working with you.
