How can the brain actually store information?

I mean, i can't express myself that much with words. But the information and everything. What does the brain have that "stores" them? How can the brain actually store information? This question is kinda part of my pride, as the current theory on it was by Donald Hebb who attended Dalhousie University (which i go to(its in canada))

But basically you have trillions of neurons which are really just cells similar to what makes up your hands (with atleast one really long "wire" or axon attatched to it, but usually more) This makes up a "Web" or neural network

The cells send impulses down the wires when something happens when they fire often, they get stronger and healthier so they fire easier the next time (the saying is "cells that fire together, wire together.)... say you see a red apple, and that gets "coded" on some particular set of neurons in your brain... the neurons that get coded arent specific....a neurologist named Lashley tried finding where memory was stored and all he could figure out is that the more brain matter he took out, the worse a rats memory would be.... and no specific location held more memories (although some definately hold certain memories)

anyway, the more often a cell fires to a location, the stronger that connection works. Thats why when i thought of RED, i remembered apple. Apples are usually red, and often thought of as a prototypical red object. Fire hydrants and firetrucks are red too. In reality some apples are green and fire trucks are yellowish green now usually....but thats not what is associated with these objects

In an example

If i say DOG and MOUSE

you probably thought of a....cat? Thats because they are often associated (your peripheral vision likely primed the answer to make it even faster too!). Thats how you store memories, you learn assoications.

Its really an interesting topic but also confusing, which are both reasons why i answered in such length - i have to make it readable for someone who doesnt know what a dendrite is! :)
