My husband and I own an electrical business. He was told they are looking for electricians and such to help rebuild there. How do I find more information on this?
How do I find information on contracting work in Galveston, Texas?FEMA should be able to put you in contact with contractors who are/will be working in the area. You might also contact the power companies serving the Galveston/Houston area as they may be hiring sub contractors. Good luck to you.
And, Lise22, your "typical American" remark is uncalled for. Volunteers provide indispensable service in times of disaster and certainly should be encouraged. There are some areas, however, where professional expertise is required and providing those services for a fair price is not "making money on the backs of those who have lost everything." There are many areas that volunteers can provide services and assistance, but well meaning volunteers in some areas can cause more harm than good. Do you honestly believe that everyone of the Red Cross representatives who respond to a disaster are unpaid volunteers? If so, I have a bridge for sale cheap! How do I find information on contracting work in Galveston, Texas?
I Know Its Been Awhile Since You Asked, But Yall Might Try The IEC (Independent Electrical Contractors) They Are Located In Houston. But Have Schools For Electricians In Houston, Galveston, And All Across The USA. If He Is A Union Electrician He May Check The Local Union Branch.

You Knock On People For Getting Paid, But Most Volunteers Dont Require A Pat On The Back For All That They Do, Like Youself. Thats Concidered Payment Also, By My Book. We Give Discounts, Donate Materials, Donate Some Of The Man Hours, But We Cant Give All And Get Nothing. Thats Poor Business. If They Have Insurance And The Government Senting Them Checks They Should Pay Something.

How do I find information on contracting work in Galveston, Texas?Typical American, under the guise of wanting to help, you are looking for ways to find work so you and your husband can make money on the backs of those who have lost everything. If you had asked "How can I volunteer my services?" I would be more helpful.TO NANA64
I am a doctor, I volunteer every year for 3 to 6 months and have for the past 10 years, in fact I just returned from Darfur. I have also volunteered for the Red Cross and yes there are some very well meaning volunteers who have made a mess of things. However, I know many doctors who won't volunteer needed time because it is for free and they might lose money at their private practice. Furthermore, my CANADIAN husband, who is a general contractor, spent his own money, bought materials and shipped everything down to New Orleans after Katrina and built new houses, for free. The majority of the American contractors involved wanted money either from the government or the people they were helping. He couldn't even write it off on his taxes as we are Canadian but he did it anyways. Regardless now that I am back he is willing to do the same in Galveston. And we are not American, nor do we have any ties, simply we are people willing to help out those in need regardless of location with no expectation of renumeriation. The same can not be said by many Americans. In fact, look around this site and see how many Americans expect those who have lost everything to pay for the rebuilding and reimburse any costs that incurred for rescue. Greed, I'm sorry but it is the basis of the American way.How do I find information on contracting work in Galveston, Texas?
You could probably contact FEMA but then you'd be caught in the gov't BS treadmill. Is there a professional association you know of that might have better information? That would be a good place to start. How do I find information on contracting work in Galveston, Texas?
