How do i insert article information as evidence with the correct MLA format?

I am currently writing a research paper on violence, and i wanted to use the information on an article. I need help on how to insert it into my essay. How do i insert article information as evidence with the correct MLA format? For a direct quote:

1. According to Thompson, "pigs really can fly" (156).

2. There is speculation that "pigs really can fly" (Thompson 156).

If you introduce the author before the quote, you just need to identify the page number in your citation. The page number will go inside the parentheses BEFORE the final sentence punctuation.

If you do not introduce the author before the quote, you need to state his/her last name before the page number in the citation. You simply put the LAST NAME of the author followed by the page number inside the parentheses BEFORE the final sentence punctuation. There is no need for a comma between the last name and page number.

If you paraphrase:

Some believe that it is possible for pigs to fly (Thompson 156).

Same idea with the citation as before.
