What is it called when an investigation makes a wall of information?

IN movies and TV shows, when an investigation is going on they make a wall of clues. For example, in Prison Break when Scofield tries to get the cards he puts clues on a board to connect all the dots. Usually in other places there is string attached around thumbtacks which hold up important information.I just want to know what that is called and/or how I can make one to plan my future career.What is it called when an investigation makes a wall of information?In some states its called a flow chart.
